Convolution Weave Structures is an exhibition of virtual aleatoric structures made over a year, composited into Upfor Gallery as captured on a beautiful spring day in 2016. These sculptures resonate in the entrance, main gallery and front desk.
The static structures engage the audio of the room, via generative computer music using convolution reverb to match the room's tone. A tour of the show can be heard in the background.
The sculptural forms are closely related to the artists' view of the composition of electronic music. Aleatoric in a broad sense, they are not based strictly on chance operations, but also on procedure and intuition.
The exhibition is accompanied by a physical book of virtual sculpture titled Aleatoric Weave Structures and a generative audio composition titled Triple Knotted Gates, which was recorded straight to the hard drive without human intervention.
Thanks to Rodrigo Valenzuela for help photographing the exhibition.
